Smart home tech producer Aqara has made a collection of product reveals at IFA 2024, with a heavy element of Matter compatibility. These new products include new wall dimmers, bulbs, and a garage door controller.
In addition, Aqara’s Thread support is extending, which should help to solidify its commitment to Matter as the smart home platform evolves.
Here’s a look at what Aqara has brought to Matter so far, and what you can expect from the company following IFA 2024.
Aqara’s Current Matter-Compatibles
Aqara is one of the prime exponents of Matter-compatible hardware, producing hubs, lighting, controllers, sensors, and kits to get you started with a modern smart home set up.
Its current range includes devices such as the Aqara FP1E Presence Sensor, Aqara Ceiling Light T1M, Aqara Hub M3, and the Aqara Camera Hub G3. We were particularly impressed in our review of the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2, awarding it 9/10, and Aqara’s Matter offerings so far have been pretty robust.
New Aqara Smart Home Devices Revealed
Aqara is aiming to add to the above with a new selection of devices for the Matter smart home.
Garage Door Controller T2 Kit: intended to control up to two sectional garage doors, this supports geofencing, mobile apps, and voice assistants (Alexa, HomeKit, Google Home, etc.), and includes a wireless sensor to monitor door status.
H2 EU wall switches: Three wall-mounted devices – the Light Switch H2 EU, the Dimmer Switch H2 EU, and the Shutter Switch H2 EU – were also unveiled. These are Thread- (and Zigbee) enabled wall switches that deliver manual control of lighting and other wall-mounted switch-based systems. They feature power monitoring and are designed to be used in houses with or without a neutral wire.
LED Bulb T2: finally, Aqara has unveiled a new Thread-enabled LED bulb range, which is available in RGB CCT (with 16 million colors) and the simpler CCT model. This range of bulbs includes the E26, E27, and GU10 bulbs.
Note: These devices do not yet have a release date, but based on previous announcement-to-turnarounds, they can be expected in the next few weeks.
Other Aqara devices currently without Matter support announced at IFA 2024 include the Camera Hub G5 Pro external surveillance cam, and a smoke detector. This latter has been built upon the Zigbee protocol, which supports smoke detectors. This highlights a key difference between Matter and Zigbee.
IFA 2024 and Matter Announcements
Aqara’s range of new Matter-compatible tech is just one of various smart home highlights from IFA 2024.
Don’t forget to read up on the Tado X smart home energy management range launching in the UK, the LG ThinQ ON “Affectionate Intelligence” hub, and the long-expected release of Thread 1.4, which delivers several improvements to the low-energy wireless networking protocol that Matter heavily relies on.
