How will you relax in your garden this summer? Pergolux is hoping you’ll choose from its S3 Smart range of pergolas, which features two Matter-certified smart pergolas. The Skydance and Sunbeam models are Norwegian-designed, specifically to “blend indoor and outdoor spaces,” but more significantly, they are capable of some useful home automations.

S3 Skydance and Sunbeam Pergola features

Unsurprisingly, the key feature of this pergola is integration with the top home ecosystems, including Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. These allow you to control the pergola with your voice, a mobile app, or set up and manage automated schedules.

Setting the schedules in the right way can potentially add energy savings.

If you already own a pergola and are looking for an upgrade, or you’re exploring ways to extend your connected space into the garden, this could be an interesting addition to your smart home. Matter-compatible garden equipment is already expanding, so it’s good to have an option you can kick back in to watch the grass being watered.

What does Matter add to the usual pergola experience?

Matter has support for connected pergolas, which means you can remotely adjust the louvers (those bars across the top of the pergola that swivel in mechanical units) to adjust sunlight and shade. It also supports lighting and heating options within the Pergolux S3 Pergolas.

The unit also offers AI-powered automation, some of which can be used to integrate with the more basic Matter options. The S3 Pergolas support time, weather, temperature, and other personalization settings for automations.

Built to a Scandinavian design, the wider louvers should provide superior shading and rain protection, ideal for spending as much time in the garden as possible. Naturally, the pergola can be controlled via an in-house mobile app, and where compatible controls are available through your usual Matter app.

We understand these systems can be installed with relative ease thanks to Pergolux’s SnapFIT Technology, hopefully avoiding the need to hire any outside help.

More Matter-connected garden tech

This isn’t the first Matter-certified pergola to be announced in 2025. We’ve already seen the new connected pergola range from Struxure, which offers some similar features as the Pergolux range.

"The S3 [range] isn't just an upgrade – it's a complete transformation of how we experience our outdoor spaces," says Tim Heneveld, Country Director of PERGOLUX North America. "We're offering more than just a pergola; we're delivering a fully integrated smart home extension that adapts to your lifestyle, creating a comfortable, stylish, and energy-efficient outdoor haven."

You can order the Pergolux S3 Skydance and Sunbeam pergolas via their online store now. Note that a budget model, the S3 Smart Pergola, is also available, but this is not listed as being equipped with Matter.
