The ULTRALOQ smart lock brand from IoT solutions company Xthings has announced two new Matter-compatible locks at CES 2025. The Bolt Mission UWB and the Bolt Fingerprint Matter smart locks are both Matter-compatible, and offer interesting features and functions that could change the way you think about smart locks.

Matt Brown is Head of Marketing at ULTRALOQ: "ULTRALOQ is continually pushing the boundaries of what's possible in smart lock technology… We are heavily invested in research and development to ensure our products incorporate the latest advancements and deliver the most secure, convenient, and reliable access control solutions available."

Let’s take a look at what we know about the Bolt Mission UWB and the Bolt Fingerprint Matter.

Bolt Mission UWB

The ULTRALOQ Bolt Mission UWB + NFC is the first smart lock to feature ultra-wideband technology. It’s similar to the tech found in digital car keys, and allows the Bolt Mission to determine your phone’s position, distance, direction, and location with accuracy. UWB has traditional applications in radar imaging (usually aerial/orbit), and is useful here because it is low energy, short-range, and high bandwidth.

Here, it enables automatic unlocking as you approach the door and prevents accidentally unlocking the door when you’re home watching TV.

Unlocking can be completed in under half a second, and the device has an IP65 weather resistance rating. It also has BHMA Level 1 security certification, two-layer 128-bit AES encryption, AWS integration for data security, and a 1-year battery.

It also includes NFC for tap-to-unlock and automatic locking, while Matter compatibility integrates the lock with your smart home, with support for Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings voice assistants.

ULTRALOQ are listing the Bolt Mission UWB + NFC at $399.

Bolt Fingerprint Matter

Announced alongside the Bolt Mission UWB, the Bolt Fingerprint Matter from ULTRALOQ is a fingerprint reader smart lock, which also accepts PIN codes and traditional keys. Like the Bolt Mission UWB, it has IP65 weather resistance rating, and a 1-year battery life.

As ULTRALOQ’s first Matter-enabled deadbolt, this is a significant release. Matter compatibility makes it easy to manage through Matter-certified apps, and accessible from other Matter-certified platforms. So, you might add the Bolt Fingerprint Matter to an automation with other Matter smart home devices, or into a full scene (locking the door when the lights are turned off after 8pm, for example).

The new ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint Matter is listed at $199.

Smart Locks at CES 2025

Several new smart locks with Matter support have been announced at and ahead of CES 2025. It’s increasingly looking like smart locks will be a key driving factor for Matter technology over the next few years.
