German smart heating manufacturer Tado has launched Tado X, a collection of Matter-compatible devices. A smart thermostat, radiator thermostat, and temperature sensor are among the Tado X range, launching in the European Union. Aiming to make smart heating more accessible, the Tado X devices are Matter and Thread compatible. This integration of the Matter protocol and Thread should ensure greater range and stability.

Notice that the Smart Thermostat X is available standalone or with a Bridge X. Also, the Smart Radiator Thermostat X comes with a Bridge X, or standalone. There is also a bundled “Quattro pack” option of four thermostats. Learn more about each device or bundle at shop.tado.com. Tado’s other main range, Tado V3, is not compatible with Tado X hardware or Matter.
How Matter Compatibility Changes Tado
The release of Matter 1.3 introduced support for energy management devices and energy reporting capabilities. Tado already has a solid range, and Tado X’s Matter compatibility future proofs the brand. At the time of writing, Tado’s only Matter-compatible smart thermostat competitor is the Google Nest Thermostat.
Tado’s X range opens the doors to a more interconnected smart home, making the prospect of Matter as the emerging smart home protocol increasingly attractive. Interestingly, the Tado X devices are priced in the same rough price range as its Tado V3 line, which will help encourage people to switch.
Tado has a good chunk of the smart home heating market, so expect its competitors to add Matter support soon.
