Matter-Compatible SmartWiz+ Mirror Now Available on Amazon

One of the most unusual Matter-compatible devices we've seen has just appeared on Amazon. Combining the smart mirror concept and integration with the usual smart home ecosystems, the SmartWiz+ Mirror seems to be quite an ambitious device. 

First introduced during the busy holiday season, Japan-based DISIGN Incorporated's SmartWiz+ Mirror combines a multi-functional Matter smart display with an unassuming design that blends effortlessly with a home's decor. As far as we can tell, this is the first Matter smart mirror to hit the market.

SmartWiz+ Mirror: Design and Specs

The SmartWiz+ Mirror features an expansive 21.5" full-HD touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920x1080. Despite its large screen, the mirror has minimal bezels on the sides giving it a sleek overall profile with measurements of just 26x12.7x1.5-inches.

The SmartWiz+ Mirror is designed to be wall-mounted in portrait orientation using the included hardware, hooks, and template. The mirror appears to have enough depth to rest over its 12-volt power supply, and the company includes adapters for US, UK, and EU outlets.

Around the side of the mirror's frame is a single speaker along with a microSD card slot that supports up to 512 GB. Inside the mirror are several wireless radios including 802.11 b/g/n 2.4gHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low-Energy 5.0, and Thread.

In addition to touch, the integrated display also supports gesture controls. These include simple hand movements such as a swipe gesture to lower the internal speaker's volume or a wave to toggle connected lighting.

Of course, the real star of the show with the SmartWiz+ Mirror is its Matter integration. According to DISIGN Incorporated, the mirror acts as a Matter Controller allowing for the pairing and control of devices right from its display potentially making it the first of its kind.

Once connected to the mirror, Matter devices appear to be added as "tiles" to an Apple Home-esque user interface. Passive devices like temperature and security sensors are shown near the top of its screen, while accessories like smart plugs and light switches sit below.

Selecting a device tile appears to bring up additional controls such as toggles and dials, as well as a settings option. The company also claims that the mirror supports scenes, automation, and even camera and doorbell alerts but with the latter not being in the Matter specifications as of yet, it is unclear how this integration works. 

We've reached out for more details surrounding the mirror's Matter Controller functionality and will update this post accordingly. Other non-smart home highlights include the ability to display current weather conditions, and calendar and task syncing with Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar.

The SmartWiz+ Mirror is currently available through Amazon in North America for $578 with free two-day Prime shipping. DISIGN Incorporated states that it will also be available in EU markets in the future.
