Motionblinds has officially joined the Works with Home Assistant program on Friday, making it the first certified smart blinds brand in the ecosystem via Matter. This marks another step toward a fully integrated smart home experience built on certified, locally controlled devices.
Motionblinds, a brand from Dutch company Coulisse, has been producing window coverings for 30 years. Its smart blinds offer customizable designs and automation features, such as opening when you arrive home or closing sun-facing blinds to keep rooms cool.
The partnership covers Motionblinds’ Eve-powered motors, which support Matter-over-Thread, ensuring smooth integration with Home Assistant. Additionally, the Motionblinds Matter Bridge (CM-55) enables local connectivity for models using Bluetooth and 433MHz technology. However, standalone Bluetooth blinds remain uncertified under the Works with Home Assistant program.
Certified devices
Motionblinds’ certification covers a range of products, including:
- Roller shades
- Double roller shades
- Venetian blinds
- Honeycomb shades
- Curtains
- Pleated shades
- Vertical blinds
- Roman shades
- Upgrade kits for roller blinds
These models either connect directly via Matter (when powered by Eve) or through the Matter bridge. Home Assistant’s recent Matter certification ensures a seamless, locally managed smart home experience with long-term support.
A step toward in local operation smart home
As Matter only provides essential features in devices, users rely on Matter platforms to control and automate home devices. Home Assistant should be the ultimate solution, helping you to create complex and powerful scenes locally, especially for indoor climate controls. There are some all-in-one community integration to automate blinds, thermostat, and sensors all together. And the certification ensures better testing and compatibility between Motionblinds and Home Assistant so you will experience fewer issues.
Aqara has been on board via Matter similarly including the brand’s native Matter devices and those compatible with Matter via a bridge. With Motionblinds filling a long-standing gap in the window blinds category in the Works with Home Assistant program, users now have more choices for integrating smart window blinds and shades into their automation routines with Matter.
