Legrand's New Smart Outdoor Dual Plug Brings Matter to the Great Outdoors

After its introduction way back at the Consumer Electronics Show back in 2024, Legrand has finally released its first Matter-compatible smart plug for the great outdoors. As its name implies, the Legrand WWMP31 Smart Outdoor Dual Plug features not one but two remote controllable outlets that can power lighting, equipment, decor, and more.

Legrand Smart Outdoor Dual Plug: Why it Matters

Despite sporting two onboard outlets, the Legrand Smart Outdoor Dual Plug is surprisingly compact measuring just 3.3 inches wide and having a depth of 1.75 inches. Similar to other outdoor smart plugs, near the top of its frame is a non-removable cord that extends its overall footprint to 14 inches, and positioned at the bottom are the two outlets each protected by a weather seal.

The plug's two 120-volt 15-amp outlets are rated for up to 1,800 watts for lighting and other general loads, and they are also suitable for 1/2HP motors. Unlike some of its competitors—like TP-Link's Tapo P400M—Legrand's offering appears to only support simultaneous controls either remotely or through its single on-device button, and they cannot be toggled independently.

As with other devices within Legrand's Matter product range, the WWMP31 outdoor plug connects to existing 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks without the need for an additional hub or app download. Thanks to Matter, users can opt to connect it to any of the major smart home ecosystems right out of the box including Samsung's SmartThings, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Apple Home with just a scan of the provided QR pairing code.

After connecting to Matter, users can toggle the outdoor plug remotely on-demand via their preferred app or through voice commands. It can also be tied to other Matter-compatible garden equipment such as motion sensors and other lighting through automation, schedules, routines, and scenes.
