Aqara has announced the launch of its W100 Climate Sensor in China, bringing advanced home climate monitoring features to consumers. The device, initially unveiled at CES earlier this year, is now available in China, offering both Zigbee and Matter-over-Thread connectivity options, enhancing its compatibility with various smart home ecosystems.
A look at the Aqara W100 Climate Sensor
The W100 Climate Sensor is designed to monitor temperature and humidity levels, allowing users to maintain optimal indoor conditions. One of its standout features is the dual-zone temperature and humidity detection capability, which is currently exclusive to Zigbee mode. The sensor is equipped with a high-precision sensor, with a display to monitor a second thermometer at the same time, ensuring that users stay informed about environmental changes across their living spaces. This enables more proactive climate control, as data from the W100 can serve as conditions for automating responses in other smart devices.
The device also comes with a magnet inside, allowing flexiable installtion with a metal kit for wall mounting.
Aqara has also introduced a companion thermostat, the W400, which fits into standard local 86x86 millimeter switch wire boxes. This device enhances the W100’s functionality, enabling users to bind and adjust their heating and cooling settings from another room with upcoming firmware updates.
Aqara W100 features
Additional features of the W100 include three customizable wireless switches that allow users to operate various devices and scenes through single-click, double-click, or long-press actions when not binded with a thermostat. However, it’s important to note that when the W100 is paired with the W400 thermostat, the switch functions do not operate independently, necessitating separate usage modes for optimal performance.
The W100 offers a battery life of up to two years, complementing its user-friendly and comprehensive design. It supports various smart home systems, including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. However, users should note that the integration with local weather data and other binding features is currently available only via Zigbee mode, with additional features planned for future updates.
Looking ahead, the W400 thermostat may not be launched in global markets. Instead, Aqara is preparing to introduce the W500 Floor Heating Thermostat, shown on Connectivity Standard Alliance’s database. This new device, which features a thermostat, a relative humidity sensor, and energy monitoring capabilities, aims to offer an advanced alternative.
Priced at 299 yuan ($40.88), the product (or a significant variant) should be available on the global market soon.
