Aqara Launches Camera Hub G5 Pro with Wi-Fi, PoE, and Smart Hub Functionality

After months of teases, leaks, and speculation, Aqara has finally announced the release of the company's highly anticipated Camera Hub G5 Pro. Available in Wi-Fi and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) models, Aqara's latest cameras feature premium image quality, AI object detection, seamless smart home integration, and Matter hub functionality.

Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro: Why it Matters

In addition to two connectivity options, Aqara's Camera Hub G5 Pro is available in two finishes—black and white. Regardless of variant, the Camera Hub G5 Pro provides high-resolution 4MP, 2.6K video (1520p), a 133-degree field of view, and enhanced low light performance via Aqara's True Color Night Vision technology and a built-in dimmable spotlight.

Inside the Camera Hub G5 Pro is a neural processing unit (NPU) that enables local, on-device AI object and sound detection. Thanks to the onboard NPU, the cameras can recognize and send critical alerts to users whenever people, vehicles, packages, and animals enter its view, even during an internet outage.

According to Aqara, the G5 Pro is built for year-round usage both indoors and out with its IP-65 weather resistance rating that keeps out moisture and dust. Aqara also states that the camera can withstand extreme conditions with operating temperatures ranging from -22 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. 

When it comes to smart home integration, the Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro supports Amazon's Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, and more through RTSP. For Apple Home users, Aqara's new cameras may be of particular interest as they support HomeKit Secure Video features, and the PoE variant is a rare find in a market dominated by Wi-Fi-only offerings.

Although the current Matter specifications don't support security cameras, the Camera Hub G5 Pro—like Aqara's Hub M3—still functions as a Matter Controller. The cameras also serve as Thread Border Routers and even as a bridge/hub for the company's line of affordable ZigBee-based smart home accessories.

Pricing starts at $179.99 USD for the Wi-Fi variant, while the PoE model retails for the slightly higher price of $199.99. As with previous Aqara launches, the company is offering a 15% discount for a limited time when using code NAPRG5PRO(EUG5PRO1 in the EU) at Amazon during checkout.
